Yoga is an ancient practice that helps us cultivate health and wellness on every level. Young children tend to love yoga – and the benefits of the practice is far reaching. When presented to them in a skillful way, yoga can help increase mindfulness, emotional intelligence, impulse control, learning capacity, and stress management skills. Yoga also adds to body awareness, coordination, and a sense of connection and confidence. A classroom of children and adults who practice yoga is a calmer, more peaceful classroom.
Olynda Smith is an Experienced-500 RYT Yoga teacher with over 15 years of experience teaching yoga to adults and children. She is also a certified early childhood Montessori classroom teacher and spent a decade in the classroom with three to six-year-olds. Cesanne Berry is the Head Teacher at Carolina Friends’ Durham Early School (DES), an early school inspired by the Reggio-Emilia approach and Quaker philosophy and pedagogy. Cesanne teaches music, creative movement, and yoga at DES.
Join Olynda and Cesanne for a joyful morning exploring the benefits and techniques of sharing yoga with three to six-year-olds. You will leave with a better understanding of the yoga practice and with specific ways you can begin to share this practice with the children in your care. This workshop is worth three continuing education points for teachers and three credits for yoga teachers through Yoga Allience
